As you enjoy all of the fun in the sun that Summer has to offer, I’m sure some sexy time in and/or around the water has crossed your mind at least once or twice. But water sex isn’t quite as simple and spontaneous as movies and TV shows portray it to be. Whether you’re playing in a bathtub, a pool, a lake, or somewhere else with water, here are some important things to keep in mind!
The Risks
In addition to any sexual health risks, a large body of water brings its own set of risks to sexual activity that most people don’t think about before diving in.
- Depending on where you’re playing, there is a chance that bacteria or chemicals (if in a hot tub) can get inside of the body. If you’re playing somewhere you wouldn’t drink the water, maybe avoid penetration play altogether.
- Be aware of (both of) your swimming abilities and avoid activities or positions that easily cause fatigue.
- Try to avoid types of sexual activities that involve someone’s head fully going underwater; like oral.
- Be careful of anywhere you could possibly slip such as on a bath mat or on some algae/seaweed.
Lube Up
Uberlube Premium Silicone Lubricant
Just a friendly reminder that water actually washes away any natural lubrication from the vagina, and of course the anus doesn’t self-lubricate at all; making lube more essential!
Avoid a water-based formula as it also washes away easily from the body with water; while this is a good thing most of the time, not so much for your aquatic adventures! Silicone lubes on the other hand keep their slick slide, even underwater - just avoid using them with silicone toys.
Silicone can also be hazardous if spilled on the floor, the bottom of the shower, etc so use extra towels and be extra cautious when applying!
Positions
Say hello to new and unique positions in and around the water!
The buoyancy and weightlessness of your bodies in the water can allow for some different sex positions that are hard to achieve on dry land where gravity is involved - especially those that involve using your full body weight, such as lifting another person.
Toys
Satisfyer Sexy Secret Panty Vibrator Bordeaux
Who says your favourite toys can’t join you in the water?! As long as it says that it’s waterproof, it should be good to go underwater. They often either have a seal over the battery compartment or a seal over the charging port to keep the water out. Most toys that recharge via a magnetic USB charging cable are waterproof too!
Keep in mind though that for most sex toys, “waterproof” usually means that it has been given the IPX7 rating, which states that it can be submerged up to 1 meter in water for 30 minutes. Also think about where you’re going to play before you decide which toy(s) to use because chlorine, sand, saltwater, and dirt can all degrade your sex toy.
Pro Tip: If you have a waterproof panty vibrator (like the Satisfyer one pictured above), attach it to your bathing suit bottoms instead for more discreet vibes in and out of the water.
Tips
Here are some of our tips to keep you playing wetter, for longer!
- Use things around you and in your environment to your advantage. Pool steps? Use it for a seated position! Is there a sandbar in your body of water? Kneel down or get on all fours!
- Depending on where you’re playing, your water might not have an endless flow - especially if hot water is being used in the shower or bathtub.
- You can’t use barriers like condoms or dental dams fully underwater so instead keep them nearby so you can slip out of the water for protection when you need to!
- Explore further what gravity-free buoyancy has to offer with some of your heavier toys like those made of glass or stainless steel.
- Are you playing anywhere that features jets - like a pool or hot tub? Use them to your advantage by stimulating the clitoris, the nipples, the butthole, and more!
