Lube is a sexual accessory essential for a variety of reasons including comfort, safe play, and added sensation! In case you didn’t already know, there are three main types of lubricants - oil-based, water-based, and silicone-based. Read more about ALL of the different types of lube in our guide here!
For many people, it’s often about personal preference as each type has its pros and cons, although water-based tends to be the most universal. However, if you haven’t tried a silicone lube yet or you are simply curious about the benefits, here’s why we think silicone lube should be added to your collection too!
1. It’s longer-lasting
Silicone lubricant stays on the body or a toy for a longer period of time, meaning you have to re-apply it less often!
2. Fewer ingredients

While water-based lubes contain the more universal ingredient of water, they also tend to contain a lot more ingredients than just water. Silicone lubes on the other hand often only contain one or two types of silicone (dimethicone, etc.) and a couple of other ingredients depending on the brand and formula.
3. A little goes a long way
One con about silicone lubes is that they are usually more expensive than water-based ones. However a little drop goes a long way, and without having to re-apply as often, you end up with more in the long run!
4. An amazing option for anal
Intimate Earth Anal Ease Silicone Glide
While some lubes are marketed towards anal play - be sure to pay attention to the formula still as they can be found in both water-based and silicone versions. Silicone lube is a great option for anal play thanks to its thicker consistency & longevity compared to that of a water-based lube.
5. A waterproof wonder
If you like to take your play underwater, in the shower, or enjoy some other wet & wild fun, silicone lube is hydrophobic - aka waterproof!
Psst…just be sure to be extra cautious while playing & clean up any remaining lube because it can get super slippery (pun intended).
6. It’s moisturizing af
Uberlube Premium Silicone Lubricant
Some silicone lubes (such as Uberlube pictured above) contain moisturizing ingredients - like Vitamin E - which can help to leave the skin feeling soft and smooth.
Pro Tip: They can also double as a shaving cream too - thanks to that waterproof property!
7. Health & safety
Don’t be afraid to use silicone lube with any latex barriers such as condoms and dental dams as it won’t deteriorate the material like an oil-based lube would.
Silicone lubes are also considered hypoallergenic meaning that they are less likely to cause an allergic reaction (but of course always check the ingredients just in case). If you’ve ever experienced some sort of skin irritation after using a lubricant, try switching to a silicone one instead!
